Course Overview
This NRSWA Operative or NRSWA Supervisor qualification, reassessment or unit O1 or S1 traffic management course ensures all work on roads and infrastructure in the United Kingdom is carried out to a safe and high standard.
After successfully completing the course the NRSWA Operative or Supervisor will have the skills to carry out Street Works to the standards required by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
Outcome
After successful completion of the course you will get a Streetworks card showing the units you completed and your competence to work on the roads. Your NRSWA card is valid for 5 years.
On completion of the course candidates will be registered with SQA, CITB, CABWI or the relevant awarding body and receive certification. They will also receive a Streetworks register photo ID card that proves registration on the NRSWA register.

Course Content
Most candidates will either take an NRSWA Operative or Supervisor course. If you do the Operative course it generally consists of units LA, O1 to O5 and O8, or LA, O1 to O6 and O8 depending on the centre you attend.
A Street Works Supervisor course will cover units LA, S1 to S5 and S7.
Other courses include: NRSWA Street Works reassessments, and individual units that traffic management and other companies may use.
Delivery
The course is generally completed through a combination of practical assessments and classroom learning.
Who Should Attend?
This NRSWA course is for operatives who work on highways and carry out excavation, backfill and reinstatement using tarmac and cold-lay bituminous materials.
We also have a NRSWA Supervisor course for people moving in to a supervisor role. Previous experience of working on street works or on roads would assist the candidates but it is not essential.
Unit O1 or S1 Traffic Management Training
The unit O1 (2) or S1 (10) traffic management training is for anyone who needs to set up signs, lights and guarding on the roads. The unit S1 supervisor course is for anyone who needs to supervise the setting up of signing, lights and barriers as par of their job. The NRSWA unit O1 qualification can be completed within one day.
